Preparing Your Garage Door for Seasonal Changes
Winter is behind us and summer is in full swing. Seasonal changes can interfere with the mechanism and inner workings of garage doors. Metal parts are highly susceptible to extreme temperature and have the tendency to break which in turn causes garage door repairs.
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, “Thousands of injuries caused by garage doors happen every summer.” The main reason for those accidents involves: doors closing on people (adults and children), fingers or hands becoming caught in the door’s sections or parts and more. Many of these accidents can occur due to faulty springs, malfunctioning doors and openers, worn out rollers, etc.
Renner Garage Door has prepared this list of “Garage Door Summer Safety Tips.” Performing the below mentioned maintenance tips this summer will keep your garage door in tip-top shape throughout the seasons and ensure the safety of your loved ones.
• Begin with a thorough visual inspection of your garage door. Look for visual signs of wear and tear like rust, broken components or loose components. Inspect your cables for signs of fraying. Open & close the garage doors using the remote control and listen to it to make sure they aren’t making any strange noises. Also, be sure to test the emergency release of the garage door (while the door is closed) to ensure everything is working in the right order.
• Lightly lubricate moving metal parts on the doors using a lithium-based lubricant. Lubricating is essential to maintain your garage door performing properly and will help prevent any damage.
• Make sure the springs of your garage door are rust free. No matter how well you take care, springs will experience wear & tear. But by spending a little more time keeping them rust free, you can extend the shelf life of your garage doors.
• Summer is also a good time to insulate your garage door to help keep out heat and make your home more energy efficient.
While performing a visual inspection, if you find any issues with your garage door that you can’t handle on your own, you can always rely on the professional garage door experts at Renner Garage Door.
